A Winter Weekend Escape to Vilnius Lithuania

I can’t say Lithuania is somewhere that I had ever really considered visiting before, but when the opportunity arose to go on a cheap weekend away there in November 2021, I snapped up the chance.

I flew out with Ryanair one early Saturday morning from London Luton Airport, and spent just short of three days in the city of Vilnius.

Coming into land our flight was greeted by a flurry of heavy snowfall, which blanketed Vilnius International Airport at such a pace that the snowplows were out in force.

We had booked ourselves a cosy Airbnb for the weekend, rather last-minute too as our original booking was cancelled the day prior due to a Covid-19 case. Located right on the edge of the city centre, we were within comfortable walking distance of all the best spots.

My weekend in Vilnius was spent seeking warmth inside charming restaurants and bustling coffee shops, and browsing the Scandi-style decor boutiques, which left me wishing I had more than just a tiny backpack for luggage.

From sampling the local food and drinking plenty of red wine, to venturing to great heights for the best city views and winding through the Christmas markets, it was a delightful little November escape to soften the post-honeymoon blues.
